Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCHARLES ALFRED READ May 29, 1911 - March 10, 2003 In peace, with his family at his side, Charles "Charlie" Read passed away on March 10, 2003 at the Riverview Health Centre. He was pre-deceased by his sister Helen and his first wife Barbara. He will be dearly missed by his wife Thyra; sons, Garry (Sharon), Peter (Wendy), Terry (Diana) grandchildren, Andrea, Jennifer, David, Joshua, Alexa, Benjamin; and great-grandchild Nicole. Charlie was a life member of ACTA and spent many years travelling throughout the world charming all those who crossed his path. The cold Canadian winters would find him sliding down the curling rink behind a delicate draw. Charlies love of the game eventually led him to a Canadian Championship at the 1949 British Consols as lead for Ken Watson. Charlie was a member of the Strathcona, Granite and The Winter Club. In the summer his abbreviated back swing could be seen in the company of his many friends as they attempted to overcome the game of golf. For many years Charlie was a member of the St. Charles Golf and Country Club. No one could ever accuse our Dad of not working hard enough but he was always able to make all the numbers work in the end. He would find much happiness relaxing with family and friends at the lake sitting in a cool breeze for happy hour - a place to rest his soul. The family would like to extend their thanks to all the staff of CD1 for their care and concern of Charlie. A celebration of Charlies life will take place on Saturday, March 15 at 10:30 a.m. in the Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave. Rev. Ian Shaw officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Us Too (Prostate Cancer Support Group, 1775 Corydon Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or the Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4.
