KATHLEEN FRITH AITKEN Born on January 14, 1905, "Gramma" passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 11, 2003. "Kitty" was born in Winnipeg and grew up on Harcourt Street in St. James. After completing her schooling, she took a job with Great West Life, where she met and married her late husband, Bill (William Forsythe Aitken), who predeceased her in 1980. She was also predeceased by her only child, Enid, who passed away in 1998. Kathleen was a dedicated sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and will be missed, especially by her great-grandson Richard Gushuliak. Rick and "Annie" spent many wonderful hours together playing rummy. Annie usually won. She loved her cards, and her bridge club met for more than 50 years. Also left to mourn are her granddaughter Leigh, her grandson Tony and his wife Melanie, son-in-law Bill and his wife Ida, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Next to family, Kitty loved her gardens and flowers, and was never happier than when working on hands and knees in the mud, either at her home in Winnipeg or at the cabin at Brereton Lake. She and Bill were "pioneers" in Silver Heights, and became life members of Silver Heights United Church and Silver Heights Community Club. As a young woman, Kathleen was an avid sportswoman and loved bowling, tennis and golf. She was a woman of fierce independence, strength of character and adventurous spirit. Her life was rich and fulfilled. In it, she touched many with her love, her wit and her determination. Good-bye Kathleen, good-bye Kitty, good-bye Gramma, good-bye Annie. Love from us all. Flowers may be sent to Silver Heights United Church, 199 Garrioch, where a service will be held on Tuesday, March 18, at 1:30 p.m. Private interment to follow. Arrangements by Wojcik Funeral Chapel.
