OLGA "OLLIE" BELTON (nee SCHMIDT) Peacefully on Wednesday, March 12, 2003, after a courageous and valiant struggle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (P.S.P) our mother, nana and great-grandmother was sent on her way on a river of tears by her family. Mom was born April 17, 1913 in Beausejour, MB, one of thirteen children born to Wilhelmina and Edward Schmidt. Her early married years were spent in Calgary, AB where three of her daughters were born. The family relocated to Manitoba in 1947. She worked for several years as a presser and shipper for Viceroy Sportswear which, in turn, was acquired by Westcott Fashions. As a loyal employee she worked for Westcott and eventually achieved the position of manager of their outlet store located on Bannatyne Avenue in the "Old" Ashdown Building. As a result of her proficient skills, she was rewarded with two trips, one to Aruba and one to Ireland. Retiring at the age of 75 was one of her proudest achievements. Ollie was predeceased by her husband Walter Anthony in 1968; her daughters, Theresa in infancy in 1938 and Kathleen Mary in 1947 and her grandson Clayton Frederick in 2000. She was also predeceased by her parents; siblings: sister Marge; and brothers, Ronald, Edward, Christopher, Samuel, Eric and Harry. She bequeathed to us the gift of life to be celebrated by her four daughters and their families. Geraldine (John), Patricia (Keith), Beverley (Walter), Maureen (Fred) grandchildren, Deborah (Leland), Michael (Wendy), Laurie (Jim), Lisa (Gordon), Douglas (Carole), Shawn, Garett and Elliott; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Alanna, Richard, Mitchell and Annika; brothers and sisters, Ivy, Helen, Ludwig (Dorothy), Bill (Esther), Emil (Margaret) sister-in-law Molly Wynne in Ireland and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Beltons family would like to acknowledge with appreciation the professionalism shown to our mother by Dr. R. J Boyd, Edna R.N., Corrine (speech pathologist), Health Care Aides Amber, Bernadette, Gerry and Lorna who provided care with dignity, as well as all staff at Lions Personal Care. Thank you Robert McGhie for giving our mother the ongoing "pampering" she so richly deserved. Your TUESDAY VISITS will never be forgotten. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 15 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Viewing will be held one half hour prior to the service time. Interment will follow in the Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Nanas grandchildren.
