Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryELLA MARTHA BORGER Ella Martha Borger has gone to join her beloved husband David and her sister Alma McLeod in heaven. She passed away Friday, March 14, 2003, at Seven Oaks Hospital after a brief illness following a heart attack March 9. Ella was born May 11, 1915, to Johanna and Emil Otto in Brokenhead Municipality, MB, but lived almost all of her life in Winnipeg, in Elmwood, the North End and St. James. Her mother died in an influenza epidemic when she was two years old. She and her sister grew up in the homes of her maternal grand-parents, Marcianna and Fredrick Dey in Elmwood and her paternal grandmother Pauline, her father and his brothers in the North End. She attended the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church German parochial, Anna Gibson, Isaac Newton and Lord Selkirk schools in the North End and Elmwood. On June 1, 1946, she married David Borger and they were a devoted couple until his untimely death in the spring of 1969. Before and after her marriage she kept house for her fathers brother Henry Otto and looked after him until his death. Her sisters children Carla Jane Ella and James David McLeod have many fond memories of their second home on McKenzie with Auntie Ella and Uncle Davey. Ella was a highly sociable fun-loving person who made friends wherever she went. She was an excellent cook and loved the theatre, music and travelling. She was an avid game player who always cheated in favour of whoever was losing. She had a strong attachment to the past but delighted in discovering anything new and different. She was a lifelong member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, a source of great comfort to her. She is survived by Carla Jane and James; Carla Janes daughter Jane McLeod, her husband Marc Pinchin, their children, Ruby and James; her aunt Ella Whiting; her sisters-in-law, Mary Deibert and her husband Eddie, Dawn Borger and Betty Borger; her niece Kathy Murdoch who made her last few years with us at Luther Home and Seven Oaks Hospital as enjoyable and comfortable as possible; and a multitude of other nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends and acquaintances whose birthdays she never forgot. She has touched us all and we will never forget her. Ellas family would like to thank all the staff and volunteers at Luther Home for the excellent care she received and the unfailing kindness that was shown to her and the rest of the family during the time she spent there. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward St., Winnipeg, with Pastor Jan Pastucha officiating. Interment to follow in Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Immanuel Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward St., Box 1, Group 258, RR2, Winnipeg, MB R3C 2E6 or Luther Home, 1081 Andrews St., Winnipeg, MB R2V 2G9.
