ALBERT SYDNEY BURGESS After a short illness, Albert Sydney Burgess passed away on March 10, 2003. Syd was born on September 9, 1918 and spent his childhood growing up with his sister on the farm near Birsay, SK. He came to Winnipeg as a young teenager and attended Daniel McIntyre. After finishing Grade 11, Dad joined the CN as an apprentice carpenter and met his future wife, Rose, through her brother Frank who also worked in the shops. The began in Europe and Dad stepped forward to volunteer for the Air Force. He served with 233 Squadron R.A.F. until September 1944, when his plane was shot down and he and the crew were taken prisoner. When life returned to normal, Dad returned to Canada and the CN and in 1949 married Mom. After enough of the city life, they moved to Rennie. There Dad and his cousin Allan found time to work between their fishing trips until Mom and Dad returned to Winnipeg in 1957. Dad finally retired and took up woodworking, this time as a hobby, enjoying his retirement and his granddaughter Jennifer. We lost Mom in 1998, but Dad continued on with the help of his neighbours, especially Eva and Andy. Dad will soon be returning to Lankota where he enjoyed the outdoors. Fly free, Dad. You will always be my hero Cremation has taken place. There will be no formal service. LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
