Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLORNE GIBSON SHEWFELT May 27, 1926 - March 12, 2003 With courage and dignity, our beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away in peace at the St. Boniface Hospital. He will be dearly missed. While he will be thought of as much for his jokes and stories told many times over, he has left a much deeper legacy with his family and friends. Lornes family was his life. Lorne and Adrienne were married for 54 years, living over 50 years in Killarney, helping to grow and create a community. His family was the foremost factor in any life decision he had to make. They had six children. Lorne was predeceased by Susan (who died in infancy) and Michael (1951-1972). He is survived by his loving wife Adrienne and children, Barb and Bruce, Paul and Gail, Leslie and Ed and Bruce and Bev. He taught us that individuals can make a difference, that we can help ourselves by helping others and that music is essential to life. His 12 grandchildren, Heather, Sarah and Lindsay, Amy, Erin and Kevin, Kathleen, Reid and Anna and Erica, Nicole and Blair, were close to his heart and he so valued the individuality of each of them. He will be truly missed for his humour and unwavering friendship, by Lorne and Adriennes dear lifelong friends, his golf partner and his coffee mates. Lorne spent many years in the creamery business. He owned the Macleods store for several years and then worked with the Turtle Mountain School Division until his retirement. In his retirement he enjoyed two full terms with the Westman Media Cooperative. He loved to golf and meet his friends for coffee. He was a supporter and advocate for the Tri-Lake Concert Association. Lorne was actively involved in the Killarney United Church and was a faithful member of the church choir. He was a longtime member of the Shamrock AA group and he gave and received so much support from his many friends in the Killarney, Brandon and Rolla groups. Lorne is also survived by his brother Gordon of Kenora, his sister Betty of Winnipeg and many more cherished relatives. We celebrated his life on Sunday, March 16 at 3:00 p.m. in the Killarney United Church. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Lornes memory to the Killarney United Church Building Fund. Killarney Funeral Home in care of arrangements.
