ANNIE ZEMLIAK
Born: Feb 16, 1907
Date of Passing: Mar 13, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNIE ZEMLIAK On March 13, 2003, Annie Zemliak (nee Bachewich), peacefully entered eternal life at the age of 96 years. Annie was born on February 16, 1907 to Mary and John Bachewich in Sandy Lake, MB. Annie attended Martindale School and residential school in Sifton, MB conducted by the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate. She married Nick Zemliak on July 22, 1928 and they lived in Elphinstone where they operated a dairy farm. Time and the C.N.R. took them in later years to Russell, Birdtail, Rossburn, retiring in Brandon in 1969. She opened her home to mentally-challenged women and was employed by Brandon University, housekeeping in the Recreational Centre. Last fall, Annie moved to Winnipeg with her daughter Phyllis. Annies life was absolutely faith-centered: she tried ever to serve her Lord as best as she could. She took her duties as a wife and mother seriously. She worked hard for family and church, never dreamed of missing church services and functions, and supported her parish in every way possible. One of the latest religious functions she attended, and which had great impact on her, was the transfer of Blessed Bishop Velychkovskys relics in Winnipeg. She very much enjoyed travelling: in earlier years, crisscrossing Canada with her C.N.R. husband, and more recently, making pilgrimages to Lourdes; to Ukraine to visit her parents homestead and her cousin Fr. Rozdeba, and to Rome, where her grandsons studied. The family gives heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mary Egan of Brandon, Frs. Ed Kwiatkowski, John Sholdak and Athanasius, OSBM, for giving Annie such wonderful care in her last months. Annie was predeceased by her husband Nick; parents Mary (Kristalovich) and John Bachewich; brothers, Michael (Mary, Jessie, Helen), Peter (Jean), John, Joe; sisters, Katherine (Joe Sworyk), Dora (Steve Sitko), Rose (Mike Blashko), Olga (Harry Wasyluk), Mary (Harry Sianchuk) son-in-law Elko Nakonechny; brothers-in-law, Joe Kashton and Mike Eastchuk. She is survived by her six children; Olga Nakonechny of Sarnia, ON, Sister Jean, SSMI of Dauphin, Maurice (Freda) of Victoria, BC, Sister Muriel, SSMI of Mundare, AB, Phyllis Kwiatkowski of Winnipeg, Nestor (Alice) of Brandon, MB; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; sisters, Teenie Eastchuk of Brandon, and Helen Kashton of Beausejour; and sisters-in-law, Rose, Rosie and Rejean. Parastas service will be held in Winnipeg on Wednesday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m. at Blessed Virgin Mary UC parish, 965 Boyd Ave. Funeral Divine Liturgy will be sung on Thursday, March 20 at 10:00 a.m. in Brandon, MB at St. Marys UC Church, followed by panakhyda and interment that afternoon at Sandy Lake. Main celebrant will be her grandson Rev. Dr. Michael Kwiatkowski of Lviv, Ukraine. Mass intentions for the repose of Annies soul would be much appreciated in lieu of flowers.
