TERRANCE (TERRY) REGINALD SMITH On March 12, 2003, after a brief courageous battle with cancer, his loving family by his side, Terry Smith peacefully said goodbye. Holding Terry in their hearts are his loving and devoted wife of 22 years, Elva and his precious children, Inga (Darryl), Stefan and Kristjan. Also cherishing his memory are his parents, Fred and Marg of Winnipeg; his brothers, Garth (Joanne), Wayne (Diane) and sister Dianne (Leon) mother-in-law Margret Eldjarnson; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Debbie) and Robert (Michelle) Eldjarnson as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and special friends of the family, Val, Jesse and Jase Giesbrecht. Terry was born February 19, 1954 in Winnipeg where he met his soulmate Elva. They married, began a family, and moved to Gimli in 1985 so they could raise their children in the country. Terrys passion was his family and he was very involved with their lives. He coached numerous sports for all his children over many years. Some of Terrys most enjoyable times were camping with his family and friends. Being involved with his community was important to Terry and he was an avid member of the Gimli and District Fire Department for many years. A loyal and devoted employee with C.N. for 30 years, he was proud of his accomplishments, reaching the position of Superintendent of Transcona Shop Operations. Always with a joke to share, Terry brightened everyones world and his laughter would fill a room with joy. Terrys kindness and big heart left footprints in the snow. Hell be forever dancing with his Elva. We would like to extend a special thank you to all the staff of the GH4 ward of the Health Sciences Center, especially Hugh and Vicki. Thank you for taking care of our Terry. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 18 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gimli Lutheran Church with Pastor George Johnson officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will be held at a later date. A special thank you to the members of the Gimli Fire Department who will be the pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of ones choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
