ELLA HILLYER (nee DECKER) Peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the Lakeshore General Hospital, after a lengthy illness and a courageous battle with cancer, Ella Hillyer of Homebrook, MB, passed away at the age of 81 years. Ella was born in Gypsumville, MB on July 23, 1921 at the family homestead. She married Arthur Hillyer on June 15, 1940 and over the years they worked together on their farm in Homebrook. Ella enjoyed gardening, loved picking wild berries, embroidering and needlepoint. She enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her memory, her three children, Mabel (Neil) Campbell, Arnold Hillyer, and Carol (Dave) Dunn; two grandchildren, Dwight Campbell and Teralyn Olender (Matt Ritchie) one sister Molly Olson; two brothers, Bruno Decker and Ervine (Marie) Decker; sister-in-law Betty Filion, and numerous nieces and nephews; also left behind is her cherished pet "Sparky". She was predeceased by her loving husband, Arthur, on September 13, 1987 after 47 years of marriage; her parents Paul and Juliana Decker; brothers, Emil, Otto and Ernest Decker; sisters, Wilhelmine Gillies, and Hildagard Zahorodny. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the St. Martin Community Hall with Rev. Stan Fowke officiating. Interment to follow in the Davis Point Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Joe Decker, Danny Decker, Archie Decker, Doug Decker, Larry Decker and Jim Decker. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Lakeshore General Hospital and the Home Care Workers for the wonderful care they game Mom. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, c/o Runa Mangl, Box 591, Ashern, MB, R0C 0E0 for use in the Palliative Care Unit.
