ARVID HOLGAR MELQUIST March 18,1924 - March 16, 2003 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Arvid. Arvid was predeceased by his parents, Gustav and Johanna Melquist; brothers, Gustav, Albert and Kenneth. Sisters, Hannah Hobson, Katie Markusson, Ester Cure and Mable Shura. Arvid is survived by his companion of 36 years, Emma (Chicky). Three sons, Allan (Jeanette), Barry (Jean), Calvin (Karen) all of Coquitlam, BC. Grandchildren, Chad, Kristy, Karrie, Michelle, Stacey and Travis. Brother Axel; and sister Mildred Fraser; brothers-in-law, Walter Shura and Bob Hobson; sisters-in-law, Jessie Melquist and Gladys Melquist; numerous nieces and nephews. Arvid was born in Riverland, MB. He served the Military Police during the Second World War. He was employed with Winnipeg Hydro, Pointe Dubois, Diamond Drilling in the Yukon, Manitoba Hydro-Great Falls, MB, Urban Sales, Lac du Bonnet MB and Western Peat Moss Inc. He then retired at his beloved home in Newcomb. He was always in demand for his ability in Water Divining. He enjoyed bowling, dancing and music, feeding and watching his birds, "the Sugar Shack" and best of all his many friends and their families. A funeral service will be held Thursday, 11:00 a.m., March 20 at the Lac du Bonnet Legion Hall, with Rev. Rountree officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Grabowski, Don Hendrickson, Ron Hirst, Harry Nillson, Siggy Podzuck and Victor Sarapu.
