ELVERETTA SUNDMARK Elveretta (Elva) Sundmark (nee Harris) of Erickson passed away March 15, 2003 at the Sandy Lake Personal Care Home at the age of 91 years. Elveretta, the eldest daughter of Fred and Isabella Harris, was born in 1912 in Tate, Saskatchewan, a town that no longer exists. She went to school in various locations, graduating from Grade XII at Eden, Manitoba, while living with her uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Ainsley Harris. She then attended Normal School in Winnipeg. She taught school in the Lund district, north of Clanwilliam, where her husband-to-be, Einar Sundmark, was the Secretary Treasurer. They were married in 1934 and made their home on the farm where Einar had been born. Although Einar died in 1990 she never moved away from this home until forced to leave by illness in 1996. Elveretta was able to attend the celebration of a century farm award to the family in 2001. Einar and Elva had two children, Carol and Maitland. Elveretta was very active in the community. She was a member of Hilltop Baptist Church, taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She was one of the original members of the Hilltop Red Cross which later became the Hilltop Womens Club. She served on the Board of Directors of the Erickson Consumers Co-op and was one of the leaders of the Erickson 4-H Sewing Club. In retirement years she and Einar made the farm yard a showplace and spent 13 winters in Texas where she volunteered as a reading tutor in the schools. In 1993 Elveretta was stricken with severe rheumatoid arthritis which necessitated a move to Erickson in 1996. In 2000 she became a resident of Sandy Lake Nursing Home. The family is grateful for the exceptional care she received there. Elveretta was predeceased by her husband, Einar; brother Maitland; and sister Marjorie. She is survived by her son Maitland (Pat) of Birds Hill, MB; daughter Carol of Erickson; 4 step-grandchildren; and 9 step great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Elwood, of Kelowna, BC; and a sister, Kathleen McNeil, of Regina, SK. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 19, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. from the Hilltop Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Robinson officiating. Interment will follow in the Hilltop Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Don Steele, Elliot Skoglund, Sean Hilder, David Skwark, Gerald Woywada and Doug Ingram.
