Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLEONA CHRISTINE COOK Peacefully on March 17, 2003 at the Deer Lodge Centre, Leona Christine Cook, aged 56 years, wife of Hugh Bruce, formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away after a lengthy illness. Leona was born on July 30, 1946 to Sarah Stevens and Gordon Munro, who lived in Shoal River. She lived in Grand Rapids for most of her life until illness forced her to move to Winnipeg. She loved bingo and gossiping with the ladies. A devoted wife and mother, as well as active volunteer community member, Leonas generous spirit could be seen throughout her daily life. Leona leaves to cherish her memory her four sons, Kenneth (Georgina), Keith (Blandine), Bruce Jr. (Joanna) and Gordon (Audrey) and her daughter Crystal; brothers, Eldon (Lana), Roy (Nellie) and Larry; sisters, Donna (Wayne), Marilyn (Siegfried), Marion, Viola (George) and Lorna (Faron) uncles, Glen, Gilbert and Percy (Liz) Munro; aunties, Ida (Ovide) and Florence (Richard) sisters-in-law, Evelyn Stevens and Annie Cook. There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Leona was proud of her grandchildren, Rodney, Matthew, Jeremy, Darla, Rachel, Lyndon, Dwight, Quinton, Craig, Tyrell, Kayla, Keenan and Caitlyn. She talked about them all the time. Leona was predeceased by her brothers, Archie Munro (1979), Constable Gordon David Munro Jr. (1991), Percy Munro (1996) and Jimmy Stevens (2002) brothers-in-law, Peter Cook (1992) and Albert Cook (1991) sisters-in-law, Christine Hudson (1951) and Victoria Cook (1994). Prayers and wake service will be held on Wednesday, March 19 from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 midnight, at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Ave. at Parr, Winnipeg. Leona will be going home for the final time on Thursday, March 20, with wake services to be held at the Chief Peter Beardy Memorial Centre on Thursday, March 20 and Friday, March 21. Funeral service will take place on Saturday, March 22 at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church, Grand Rapids, MB, with Rev. Barbara Shoomski officiating at the wake and funeral services. Interment to follow at the St. James Anglican Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Jason Turner, Keith Cook, Rodney Contois, Bruce Cook Jr., Kenneth Cook, and Gordon Cook. The family would like to thank the staff of Deer Lodge Centre, Seven Oaks Dialysis Unit and Health Sciences Centre Dialysis Unit.
