METRO ZABINSKI Metro passed away peacefully on Friday, March 14, 2003 at the age of 79, the last of his generation. He was born on October 27, 1923 in Fork River, MB. He was predeceased by his father Wasyl in 1935, his mother Helen in 1979, stepfather Jan in 1974, brother Mike in 1984, sister Olga in 1994, and sister Mary in 2002. Metro homesteaded in Fork River until 1956 when he moved to Winnipeg. He had worked at various jobs during his homesteading days including mining and lumber mills in Northern Manitoba. In Winnipeg, Metro worked at Wilsons Auto Electric until his retirement in 1987. Metro enjoyed watching wrestling, painting, playing the violin, working on his car, renovating his home. He also enjoyed taking trips to Garden City for his daily breakfast. Metro had never married and leaves to mourn his sister-in-law Pauline Zabinski; cousins, Jean Strukoff of Birds Hill, MB, Jean Dundas of Swan River, MB, Kaye Forget of Edmonton, AB, Mary Hanka of The Pas, MB, Anne Krywda of The Pas, MB, Emile Krawchuk of Benito, MB, Marjorie Furkalo of Dauphin, MB; nieces and nephews, Larry Zabinski (Diane), Ed Zabinski (Karen), Morris Zabinski, Diane Lytwyn (Larry), Ron Tichon (Beverly), Gail Telewiak (Len), Sharon Bourboniere (Robert), Brian Kotyk; and numerous great and great-great-nieces and nephews and friends. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St., Winnipeg. Service will terminate at the chapel, with cremation to follow.
