A beloved father, grandfather and friend, Doug, the youngest of four children was born May 6, 1929 in the town of Boissevain, MB. At the age of 14 he set out for British Columbia to make his place in the world, beginning with a job cutting meat. At the age of 17 he returned to Manitoba where he worked at a bake shop for two years before beginning a gas fitters apprenticeship. Doug then met and married Winona Stouffer in 1952 and they had three children. Doug served his country with the Armed Forces Engineers Division for ten years where he was based in Chilliwack, BC and Winnipeg. In the spring of 1968 he headed north and worked for Inco Metals Ltd. in Thompson til his retirement in 1985. On his retirement from Inco he moved to the Winnipeg Beach area where he opened a greenhouse. In 1995 he closed the greenhouse and retired permanently. He then renewed a friendship and remained a close companion to Agnes Moodie until his passing. Doug was predeceased by his father William Cameron in 1955, his mother Margaret (Maggie) in 1977, sister Martha in 1986, sister Isabelle in 2001 and brother John (Jack) in 2002. Doug will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his three children, Susan (Michael) Humenny, their children, Patrick (Naomi), Aaron and Megan; Roxanne (Robert) Turnbull, their children, Tammy, Marci and Daniel; Jaye (Connie) Cameron, their children, Stephanie and Tyler. His first wife Winona with whom he remained friends til his passing, as well as his companion and friend Agnes and his many friends. The family wishes to thank all those who helped and comforted Dad in his last days, including Dale Moroski, his in-home care nurse and Dr. C. Chapnick, of Gimli, MB. Cancer is so Limited It cannot cripple love. It cannot shatter hope. It cannot corrode faith. It cannot destroy peace. It cannot kill friendship. It cannot suppress memories. It cannot silence courage. It cannot invade the soul. It cannot steal eternal life. It cannot conquer the spirit. - Source Unknown A memorial service will be held Sunday, March 23, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. at Gimli New Horizon Club, 17 North Colonization Rd., Gimli. We first got to share in Doug's life when we shared taking a plumbing course at RCSME in 1961. He allowed us to be part of his family as we were so far away from home in Ontario plus being newly married and soon to be parents got to spend many treasured hours with Nonie, Susan, Roxy & Jaye, even to naming our second son after you he became "Douglas Cameron" as we thought so highly of YOU. You were such a great inspiration to me and encouraged me to try and to be a successful plumber in the Royal Canadian Engineers. We have tried so many, many years to find you and never got to spend more time together. Robert and I speak of you often, remember the good times we spent with all of you even though the time was so short. You and your family will always have a special place in our hearts. We loved you Doug. Love from the McDougall's - Posted by: Robert & Susan McDougall (Very special Chilliwack friend) on: Jun 12, 2018

He was a great man and is sadly missed to this day by all who loved him. I loved his quick wit and he had a way to make his point come across without raising his voice. We loved sitting around the table, drinking coffee and catching up when we came down to visit when we lived up north in Thompson. To this day we would both see something and say "what would dad say about that" or" Sure wish he was here to see this, "but we know, he's up above and watching us all. - Posted by: Connie Cameron (daughter in law) on: Jan 17, 2015
