Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryTHOMAS LESLIE MONKMAN Peacefully, on March 21, 2003 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Dad passed away at the age of 80 years. Thomas was born at Loon Straits, MB on August 3, 1922, he lived there all his life and dearly loved his "little home". He fished and trapped all his life until arthritis got the best of him. He also worked on the winter road system and pulp mills. Dad was one of the first trap-net fisherman on Lake Winnipeg. He fully enjoyed fishing, dancing, teasing, joking and the quietness of "Loon". Feeding gulls brought him great pleasure. He loved making new friends and delighted in their company. Dad was very generous and often went without to help a friend. He was predeceased by his beloved parents, Hughie and Kate; brothers, Stanford, Albert, Raymond and Eddy; sister-in-law Edith Monkman; brother-in-law Siggi Sveinson; ex-wife Martha; dear daughter-in-law Phyllis; and great-granddaughter Christine. He is survived by brothers, Lindsay and Jack (Joyce) sisters, Ruby Sveinson, Gladys (Bob) Oddliefson and Phyllis (Arthur) Roche; and sisters-in-law, Elsie and Deanna Monkman. Remembering him are his special daughters, Kathy, Doreen (Edgar) Bruce, Monty (Yvonne), Stanford (Sandra) and stepdaughter Betty (Roy) Buss; dear grandchildren, Leslie (Monika), Tessa, Sandra (Jay), David (Allison), Kyle (Maryanne), Kristin, Kalvin, Jennifer (Paul), Joan, Norma, Cindy and Dale; "sweet ones", great-grandchildren, Todd, Jolene, Sean, Jamie, Dharma, Joshua, Kirsten, Amber, David, Sean and Christopher. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 26, at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, with Pastor Neill von Gunten officiating. Interment of ashes will be held at a later date in Loon Straits, MB. The family would like to thank Dr. Badenhorst, nurses and staff of the Selkirk General Hospital; the Still family; Dads travelling buddy Mike; the MacLaughlan family; and Greg and Marie Leslie. Honorary pallbearers will be all his nieces and nephews. Peaceful Sleeps, "Mr. Handsome" Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
