Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALEXANDER NICHOLSON NAIRN On March 22, 2003, at the age of 91, our dear Grandad passed away peacefully at Golden West Centennial Lodge. Alex was predeceased by his wife Mavis (1968) his daughter Beverley (1998) his brothers, David and Harry and his sister Mary (Maisie). His memory will be cherished by his granddaughters, Pamela (Rob Depres), Debbie (Brian Ford) and Allison (Gord Pedersen) his great-grandchildren, Jonathan, Bobby, Jennifer, Tommy and Alex; his sister-in-law Lorraine Nairn of New Westminster, BC, as well as his many nieces and nephews. Alex was born in Winnipeg on September 10, 1911, the son of Alexander Nicholson and Mary Ingles Davidson. Alex married Mavis Keeping in 1941 and celebrated the birth of their daughter Beverley in 1942. He served the Navy during the Second World War and upon his return, worked as a bookkeeper for a stock and bond company. He later purchased the Bridge Drive Inn and operated his ice cream business with his wife from 1964 - 1969. After Mavis death, Alex decided to sell his business and work for Dominion Motors where he excelled at selling cars until he retired. Upon his retirement, Alex enjoyed travelling and especially loved driving his car. He travelled to Florida many times, and later purchased a trailer in Alamo, TX where he would spend winters with friends. During the summers, Alex enjoyed his time with family and friends at his cottage in Sandy Hook. Alex was a terrific golfer and accomplished four "hole-in-ones" during his lifetime, one which won him a trip to the Bahamas! He enjoyed curling and bowling in his younger years and played many games of bridge and cribbage. Alex also enjoyed cooking and was always proud to share his famous meatloaf recipe. He loved playing music and entertained many with his harmonica, ukulele, as well as the Hawaiian and acoustic guitars. Grandads terrific sense of humour kept friends and family always laughing and in good spirits. He will be greatly missed. We remember him speaking of his long time friendships with Charlie Johnson, Lynn Scott and Grant Murray whom he cherished dearly. The family wishes to extend sincere thanks for the kindness and care received from the nurses and staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge during the past six months. Cremation has taken place with a private family interment to be held. A memorial service will be held at Golden West Centennial Lodge, 811 School Rd. (at Ness Avenue) on Friday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. with a gathering for family and friends following the service. We love you Grandad and will miss you very much - until we meet again.
