Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMILY YOUNG Peacefully on March 22, 2003 at the Tudor House, Selkirk, Emily Young passed away at the age of 104 years. She was born on January 17, 1899 in Oak Lake, MB to Elizabeth (Wright) and Hedley Victor Young. She was the last of a long lived family having been predeceased by her parents and all her siblings and their spouses, Bertha Mitchell (Bill), Edith Watson (Joseph), Melville Young (Maisie) and Myrtle Burnett (Gordon). Emily never married but took a keen interest in her many nieces and nephews and will be fondly remembered by them. Miss Young attended school in Oak Lake and then worked as a telephone operator before moving to Selkirk with her parents. In her early years she had infantile paralysis, therefore her physical life was not easy but she bore it with grace. She was a hard and meticulous worker who cared for her mother who lived until 97 years of age. When she was younger, Emily raised canaries and in later years enjoyed her birds at the Tudor House. Emily was an avid painter and her penmanship a joy to see. Aunt Emily lived through three centuries with a deep conviction that all things are possible if we truly believe in God. Her religion was a great comfort to her. For the past 30 years, Emily has resided at the Tudor House. The family would like to thank everyone there who so lovingly cared for her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tudor House or a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 25 at 2:00 p.m. in the Bethel Chapel, 200 Main St., Selkirk with Pastor Andrew Porterfield officiating. Interment to follow in the St. Clements Cemetery. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
