LEON ANTONIO PAYMENT Peacefully, after a brief and courageous battle with cancer it is with deep regret that we announce the death of Leon on March 24, 2003 at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 77 years. Leon is survived by his son Dana (Denise) his daughter Maureen; his brothers, Roger (Valerie), and Arthur; his sisters, Helen Ammeter (Alvin) and Adeline Quinn; his grandchildren, Sheila McDonald (Reginald), Allison Leclerc (Richard) Duane and Michael; and his great-grandsons, Ryan and Owen Leclerc and Roderick McDonald. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Marie; his sister Anita Ammeter (Alfred) and his brothers, Alfred (Olivia), Fernand (Helen), and Georges. Leon lately became a resident of Winnipeg. He worked 38 years for CNR. He was a relief operator for the first 10 years through Manitoba, Northern Ontario and Saskatchewan; then a station agent in Clanwilliam and La Broquerie, MB, and spent the last years at the CNR Main Depot in Winnipeg. Leon had 18 years of retirement and greatly enjoyed golfing Monday to Friday from early Spring to late Fall, as possible. He was a founding member of the Steinbach Golf Course and later a member at the Transcona Golf Course. He was a member of the congregation and usher at St. Marys Cathedral in Winnipeg. A special thank you to all the staff on 5A at the St. Boniface Hospital. The funeral service will be on Thursday, March 27 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Marys Cathedral, 353 St. Marys Ave., with Rev. Fr. Darrin Gurr officiating. Interment will be taking place in Elie, MB at a later date.
