MABEL LAUREL YANKE (nee BEAUDRY) Peacefully on March 24, 2003 at the age of 79 years Mabel Laurel Yanke passed away at the Lakeshore General Hospital with her family at her bedside. Mabel will be missed by her children, son Ted (Bev) Yanke of Ashern, grandchildren, Chris (Sara) of Winnipeg, Kerry (Nicole) of Marqette, Jacqueline (Mark) of Hilbre, great-grandchildren, Kayla, Matthew, Grace, and Chase; daughter Carol (Harry) Wareing of Drumheller, AB, grandchildren, Lynn and Laurel, great-grandchildren, Nichole, Geoffrey, Steven Hatt, Johnathon and Shelby Wareing; daughter Pat (John) Plohman of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Rychelle (Dean) Plohman Lytle, Jodi and Robert, great-grandchildren, Blake, baby Lytle; son Garry (Kim) of Winnipeg, grandchildren, Camelle (Mike), Shannon (Daryl) and Shane, great-grandchildren, Colton, Ethan, Kaiden; daughter Lynn (Gary) Shabaga of Lockport, grandchildren, Ken and Kyle, her Godchild Bridgette Schwartz; her sister Margaret Kufus of Ashern, brother Bill (Eileen) of Kelowna, BC, sister Aleida (John) of Ashern, sister Evelyn (Gibby) of Gunton, MB, sister Velma Gutknecht of Ashern. Mabel was predeceased by her husband August in October of 1998; her mother Annie; and father William; her brothers, Henry, Albert, Clifford, and George. Mabel was born in the Ralph Connor District on October 29, 1923. During her life Mabel worked as a store clerk at the Kurbis and Anderson Store. Her greatest number of years were spent as a farm wife devoted to raising her five children. She was employed as a cook/waitress at the former B/A Station and Gulf Service Station, a matron at the local RCMP Detachment, and a housekeeper for the Ashern Five-O. Upon retirement Mabel spent much of her time knitting, baking, gardening/canning, and nurturing her entire family. Her greatest joy came from sharing in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A prayer service will be held on Friday, March 28, at 7:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Ashern. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 3:00 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor Nancy Walker officiating. Interment to follow at the Ashern Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chris Yanke, Kerry Yanke, Robert Plohman, Shane Yanke, Ken Everatt, and Kyle Shabaga. Honorary pallbearers will be Marion Cook, Naomi Gillis, Linda Moman, Bridgette Schwartz, Elizabeth Sonnenhol, Joyce Yanke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild in care of Runa Mangl for the Palliative Care Unit at Ashern Hospital, General Delivery, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0.
