Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACOB HENDRIK KLEYNE Peacefully, on Wednesday, March 26, 2003 at Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home, our father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend went safely into the arms of the Lord. Born in the Netherlands, Jacob, wife Fenje (predeceased) and only child Janie immigrated to Canada in May of 1953. Jacob was a good Christian man who demonstrated his faith by helping others. Jacob was a member of the Dutch Immigration Team, helping immigrants settle into their new country. He loved nature, the outdoors, fishing, camping and travelling. Jacob was a real people person and was always ready to help others. He was one of the founding members of the Manitoba Hard of Hearing Association, Honorary Life Member of the Rock of Ages Lapidary Club, and member of the West Kildonan Horticulture Society. He was a faithful member of the Covenant Christian Reformed Church for 10 years when disease caused him to transfer back to the Presbyterian Church where he served as elder for many years. He was employed in the Netherlands as the manager-swim instructor of swimming pools in Maastricht, Heerlen and Dordrecht. In Canada, from 1953 to 1968 he was produce manager and "Banana Man" for Western Grocers. From 1969 until he retired in 1984, he was employed as clearance depot manager at Merchants Consolidated. He leaves to remember and celebrate his life daughter Janie (Evert) Vaarmeyer; grandsons, Rob, Dan (Karen) Vaarmeyer; great-grandson Brennan; sisters, Riet Uitenboogaard, Willie Lobezoo, Tine (Henk) Drent; and sisters-in-law Esther, Truus Kleyne, Sylvia Siegers; and many nieces and nephews in Canada and the Netherlands. Interment will be held on Saturday, March 29, at 10:00 a.m. in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens, West St. Paul, 4477 Main St. Memorial service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 61 Picardy Pl. with Rev. Brenda Fraser officiating. Thanks to his regular visitors, niece Margaret Damsma, friend Jackie Zonneveld and Martin Posthumus. Special thanks to Caroline Boyd and the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge Personal Care Home who cared for him with dignity, respect and professionalism.
