MICHALINA (LENA) KOWALCHUK (nee BILUK) Our mother, baba and great-grandmother passed away peacefully after a brief illness on March 26, 2003 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 91 years. Lena was born on October 8, 1911 to Maria and Nykolai Biluk, a pioneer family in Gimli. As a young woman she made her way to Winnipeg to start a life of her own. Her long and varied work life consisted of time spent working as a housekeeper, a nurses aid at St. Josephs Hospital, and finally at Glesbys Garments. A wonderful mother and grandmother, she took great pride in caring for her family, always putting their needs before her own. An exceptional homemaker, she especially enjoyed cooking and gardening. With her charming manner she made friends easily and was a joy to be around. Lena will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Olga Lysenko, Jean McGill (Cliff) and son Ed Kowalchuk (Susan) grandchildren, Lisa (Larry), Edward (Maria), Christine (Ron), Gina (Aaron), Michael and Krista. She was also a great-grandmother to Lindsei, Kaleigh, Keaton, Tracy and Riley. Lena was predeceased by her husband Thomas (1978) son-in-law Matt Lysenko; brothers, John, Fred and Steve Biluk; sister Wasylyna Cowcun; stepbrothers, Mike and Peter Biluk; and stepsister Mary Pidvinski. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. with Rev. Deacon Nick Kohuch officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Edward Lysenko, Clifford McGill, Larry Sarna, Ron Gledhill, George Zywylo and Bill Myskiw. The family would like to thank the nursing staff on Unit 5-5th floor of Seven Oaks Hospital for their compassionate care. VICHNAYA PAMYAT CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
