ELAINE FERN SMITH (PURSE) July 12, 1911- March 25, 2003 On Tuesday, March 25, 2003 at 5:30 a.m., Elaine passed away on the Palliative Care Unit at the Boundary Trails Health Centre. Elaine was predeceased by her husband Tom (Thomas) Conquergood Smith on March 26, 1986. Elaine was born 91 years ago, in Roland, MB. She was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Charlie Purse; four sisters and one brother. Elaine married Tom on November 25, 1931 in Roland, MB. Elaine worked side by side with Tom on farms in the Carmen, Roland and Darlingford areas. In 1952 they bought a farm in the Darlingford area, then in the late 60s, they retired to the town of Darlingford. In 1986 Tom passed away, and Elaine moved to the Westwood Apartments in Morden, where she resided til she was hospitalized on March 2. Elaine enjoyed croqueting, knitting, playing cards and watching the Young and Restless and baseball. Elaine enjoyed her early morning breakfasts with Alice, her Sunday get-togethers with friends, visits by her daily Home Care workers, telephone calls from her family and friends. Elaines main focus and interest in life was her son Ross and Sharon. Elaines memory was remarkable, one to be admired. If you wanted to know about anyone or anything, just ask Elaine. Elaine always made each and everyone feel special, she was genuinely interested in you and your family. Elaine was a very thankful and well mannered person, even when she was suffering pain, she still said thank you to the caregivers. Elaine is survived by her only son Ross Smith and Sharon Fotty of Stonewall, MB; granddaughter Charisse and Rick Adams of Winnipeg, MB; grandson Daryl and Nancy Smith of New Bothwell, MB; great-grandchildren, Kyah Adams, Jesse Adams and Ashley Smith; her brother Ross and Vivian Purse of Naniamo, BC; nephew Brook Adams and niece Brenda Bennett, both of BC; sister-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Alice Melbourne, Dorothy Carruthers, Eva McClay, Colleen Vanasse, Ray and Tina Waddingham, Bernie and Irene Driedger. In lieu of flowers, Ross and Sharon would appreciate donations to be made to the Boundary Trails Health Centre Palliative Care Program in memory of Elaine Smith. Box 2000, Stn Main, Winkler, MB R6W 1H8 Memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 29 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Pauls United Church, 353 Thornhill St., Morden, MB with Rev.
