JACOB EWERT On March 26, 2003, Jacob Ewert went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family, after an eight week stay in Concordia Hospital. He will be painfully missed by Gertrude his loving wife of 58 years; his only daughter Mary with husband Harold Foth; his precious granddaughters, Jennifer, Christine and Andrea; numerous nephews, nieces and his in-laws. Jacob was predeceased by an infant daughter Esther in 1956 and five siblings. Born in Waldeck, Memrik, Ukraine, in 1921, the youngest son of Abram and Maria Ewert, he came to Germany during the war, spent five years in Paraguay, coming to Canada in 1953. After several months in Vancouver, the Ewerts made Winnipeg their home. He was the custodian at the North Kildonan MB Church for 12 years, and managed the Valhalla Apts. for many years. After his retirement he spent many years working as a volunteer in the M.C.C. Thrift Shop on Watt St. Reading, fishing and enjoying summers at Belair were hobbies that gave Jacob great pleasure. Participating in church activities was most important to him. Funeral service will be held Monday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the North Kildonan MB Church, 1315 Gateway. Viewing Sunday, March 30 between 4:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy. and prior to the service. Interment in Mennonite Memorial Gardens.
