MICHAEL (MIKE) PANASKY Peacefully, on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Mike Panasky, aged 82 years, of Selkirk. He leaves to mourn his passing his sons, Lenard (Sharon), Nick (Laura) and Brian; daughter Pat Onyskie; son-in-law Dennis Woycheshen (Donna) grandchildren, Wesley Panasky (Lisa), Kenneth, Kerry and Paul McRae, Joanne Cooke (Rodi), Derek Woycheshen, David and Jennifer Onyskie, Andrew and Angela Panasky; great-grandsons, Ryan, Keegan and Xander; his brother Steve; and sister Kathleen Borkowski. Mike was predeceased by his beloved wife of 52 years, Julia in 1997, his daughter Doreen in 1996; his parents and his sister. He was born in Oak Hammock, MB, on March 25, 1921. After his marriage to Julia in 1944, they lived and farmed in Oak Hammock, retiring to Selkirk in 1973. It was here Mike began his pastime of carpentry, continuing until after his 80th birthday. In recent years he enjoyed gardening and cooking soup for family and friends. Prayers were sung on Friday, March 28 at 8:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Saturday, March 29 (today) at 11:00 a.m. in the Blessed Virgin Mary the Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church, Rossdale, MB, with Fr. Michael Winn officiating. Interment to follow in the parish cemetery. His pallbearers will be his grandsons, Kenneth, Kerry and Paul McRae, Derek Woycheshen, David Onyskie and Greg Panaschuk. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Selkirk General Hospital, Dr. Badenhorst and the staff of the Selkirk Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mikes name can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Box 2248, Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or the Canadian Diabetes Association 102 - 310 Broadway, Winnipeg, MB R3C 0S6. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
