HAMIL CHOPP Peacefully on March 28, 2003, Hamil Chopp passed away at the age of 89. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Mary in 1991, five sisters, Mary, Chrissie, Sophie, Helen, Eleanor, and one brother Peter. Hamil will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Lyle (Sharon) and Colin (Pat) grandchildren, Kathryn (Dave), David (Jody), Ryan, and Kelsey; great-granddaughter Meg; and his sister Anna. Born in Gilbert Plains, MB on December 31, 1913, Hamil spent his youth in Northwestern Ontario. As a young adult, he moved to Winnipeg and it was here that he met his lifelong sweetheart, Mary Woytko. Hamil and Mary were well known in Winnipegs North End, operating the family grocery store on the corner of Boyd and McGregor from 1949 until the early seventies. He retired in 1979 and spent his retirement travelling, enjoying his grandchildren, and being the "sous chef" in Marys kitchen. Throughout his life, Hamil was an avid sports fan, gardener, and an accomplished handyman. Hamil also enjoyed many years "puttering" at the family cottage at Falcon Lake. At Dads request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. The family appreciates the many expressions of kindness from family and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff at Seven Oaks Hospital, Tuxedo Villa and West Park Manor for their excellent care, support, and kindness. Quiet and unassuming, Hamil lived for his family. His generosity, kindness and sound advice made him the example to which we all aspired. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
