Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMAJOR RONALD GENDALL SHAWCROSS Passed away quietly at the Lodge at Broadmead, Victoria, BC, on March 27, 2003. Ron commanded A Company of the Royal Regina Rifle Regiment in the first assault wave on Juno Beach, Normandy, D - Day, June 6, 1944, which was the start of Operation Overlord. Ron was Past President of the Regina Branch No. 1, Royal Canadian Legion and latterly, a member of the Pro Patria Branch, No. 31. He was a member of King Haram Masonic Lodge, Regina. Born on February 4, 1916, in Regina, he was predeceased by his first wife Betty in 1979. He is survived by his second wife Evelyn Clarissa; two sons, Gordon (Kay) of Winnipeg and Hugh (Gisele) of Medicine Hat, AB; his daughter Kathleen of London, England; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one brother Verdun of Victoria; one sister Emilene Crowe of Calgary; nieces, nephews and their families in England and Canada. Funeral service will be conducted by the Very Rev. John van N. Wright in CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL, Victoria, on Thursday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m. followed by private cremation. Tributes, in lieu of flowers, may be made to the Lodge at Broadmead, 4579 Chatterton Way, Victoria, BC V8X 4X7.
