Herbert (Bud) Joseph Stangl, retired Roman Catholic Priest of the Archdiocese of Winnipeg died peacefully on Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the age of 92. Fr. Stangl was born August 8, 1910 to parents, Michael and Nellie (Kohorst) Stangl in Roselle, IA, U.S.A. He was the sixth of 13 children. He was predeceased by his parents; and ten of his siblings, Alver (Irma), Leo (Hilda), Harry (Sally), Edmond (Frances), Beatrice Moran (Leo), Helen Underberg (Jack), Rita Findley (Joseph), Coletta Mulkowsky (Louis), Rosalia Pelletier (Russell) and Louis. He is survived by his brother Gerald (Dorothy) in California and Paul (Laurie) in Portage la Prairie. Needless to say, Fr. Bud has numerous nieces and nephews and many other relatives. He received his early education in Iowa, came to Canada in 1925 and attended St. Pauls High School, and College in Winnipeg. He received a BA from the University of Manitoba and studied for the priesthood at St. Peters Seminary in London, ON. Fr. Stangl was ordained July 9, 1939 for the Archdiocese of Winnipeg at St. Marys Cathedral by Most Rev. A. A. Sinnott, D. D. Fr. Stangl served as Parochial Vicar at Immaculate Conception Church, Winnipeg (1939-40) St. Edward the Confessor Church, Winnipeg (1940-44) St. Augustine of Canterbury Church, Brandon, MB (1944). He served as Pastor of St. Marys Church, Souris, MB (1944-51) St. Antoninus Church, Deloraine, MB (1951-63) St. Paul the Apostle Church, Winnipeg (1963-75) St. Patricks Church, Winnipeg (1975-1992). He retired as Pastor Emeritus from St. Patricks Church, Winnipeg on August 26, 1992. Fr. Stangl celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination at St. Patricks in 1989 and his 60th anniversary in 1999 at St. Vital Parish, where he assisted after his retirement until 2000. Prayers will be held on Monday, March 31 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 1 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Marys Cathedral, 353 St. Mary Ave., Most Rev.
