MARTHA JANE SMITH (nee HENDERSON) Martha passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2003 at the Riverview Health Centre. She was born in Prince Albert, SK on December 11, 1930. Martha grew up on the family farm at Paddockwood, SK with her parents, two brothers and one sister. She left the farm to work as a waitress in Prince Albert, where she met her future husband Charlie Smith and they were married in Winnipeg in 1952. In the spring of the next year, her son Don was born and in September, she contracted Polio changing her life forever. For the next 50 years her home was the King George Hospital, later Riverview Health Centre. Her life there was full of activity and many, many good times! We as a family believe that Jesus has welcomed her into heaven, where now she can experience everything that was physically denied her here on earth. Martha is survived by her son Don and Joanell; and her grandchildren, who she was always so proud of, Rob, Adam, Katie and Melissa. To her "family" at Riverview, to her friends and caregivers, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all your love and concern! Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 2 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Riverview, 1 Morley Ave. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Polio Club in care of Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4 or to the Fire Fighters Burn Fund, 303 - 83 Garry St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4J9 would be appreciated.
