JAMES ALEXANDER EADIE Peacefully on March 6, 2003, James (Jim) passed away at the age of 85 years. Jim was born in Sanford, MB and moved with his family at a young age to the north Springfield area, where his family engaged in the fur ranching business. Jim received his education in that area and after school, along with his brother and sisters, he helped his parents raise foxes and mink on the ranch. He became adept at fixing anything with a motor and he put his knowledge to good use on the ranch, and later in both the military and private life as a master mechanic. Jim enlisted in the RCAF shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War where he was employed in aircraft motor maintenance in postings in Ontario, Quebec, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland. At the end of the war, Jim was awarded the British Empire Medal by King George VI in recognition of his exemplary wartime service in his field. Jim married his childhood sweetheart, Ina Harley in 1942, and she was able to travel with him on a number of his postings. When Jim took his discharge from military service in 1946 they returned to Winnipeg and settled in East Kildonan and raised their family. Jim worked as the garage foreman for the Winnipeg Supply and Fuel Company and was in charge of fleet maintenance for the company for nearly 30 years until his retirement at the age of 64. In retirement, Jim engaged fully in his passion for golf and he enjoyed nothing better than being on the golf course with his golfing buddies at the crack of dawn to engage in a round before lunch. He kept meticulous diaries of courses played, scores won, and weather conditions for each time he went out, and thankfully he was able to continue playing up until last summer when he very reluctantly had to give up the game due to health problems. Jim was predeceased by his beloved Ina in 1999, and by his parents and all his siblings. He is survived by his sons, Jae (Rhoda) of Winnipeg and Graham (Kim) of Saskatoon; and by his three grandchildren who he loved and adored very much, Donna (Shawn MacTavish) of Winnipeg, Kyle and Brock of Regina; and as well by many nieces and nephews. No doubt if the grandkids have one outstanding memory of their visits to Grandpas house, it will be of his wonderful homemade waffles which he would make for them in an instant if they came calling on a weekend morning. A memorial service to celebrate Jims life will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 11:30 a.m. at the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 1858 Portage Ave. at Collegiate Street with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Jims memory may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, R3A 1P6 or to a charity of your choice.
