FLORENCE MARGARET GEORGE (nee ALLAN) Florence passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital on Sunday, March 30, 2003. She was born on March 27, 1922 to Alfred and Mary Allan on a farm near Killarney, MB. where she grew up the sixth of eight children. After their mothers stroke, when Florence was still young her sisters had to take on the responsibilities of the farm and family. Florence did her share when she was of age. She and two of her sisters were fortunate to attend business college in Saskatoon by the generosity of one of their aunts. Her life was spent in Manitoba though she did work for a while in Southern Ontario. While working in Morden, MB she met Milton Perry George whom she finally married on June 28, 1952. They settled in Winnipeg and had four children. Florence (Flo) enjoyed many years working in the law office of Forrester Steen & Associates. She enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid cross country skier and bridge player. She also loved to travel whether by car, bus or back pack depending on her travel companions. Flo was also an ardent cat lover, a trait which her children have happily inherited. After living in St. Vital for 29 years. Flo and Perry moved to Onanole, MB in 1996. However they were only able to enjoy their country home for a few years before Perry passed away April, 2000, after which she returned to Winnipeg. Florence is survived by her sister Jess Cook of Kingston, ON; and her brother-in-law Harry George (Louise) of Boissevain, MB; sons, Lamont (Judy) of Onanole and Keith; daughters, Barbara and Beryth (Duncan) Strong; and her beloved grandsons, Brian, Brad George, Kyle and Ryan Strong. She also leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Many thanks go to the caring people at Portsmouth Retirement Residence, Rosewood Village, Fort Garry Care Centre and Victoria General Hospital. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimers Society, the Fort Whyte Centre or Rescue Siamese and Stray Cats, in care of 75 Rampart Bay, Winnipeg, R3T 0N2.
