JOHN ALEXANDER "JACK" BURGESS April 13, 1923 - March 31, 2003 It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Jack, our husband, father and grandfather, after a short illness. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marion; his sons, John and Laura, Andrew and Julie, Ron and Vicki; and his daughter Claire and Mark Schram. Jack also leaves to mourn his passing, his grandchildren, Taylor and Evan Burgess and Alex and Jackie Schram; his brother Harold and Mary of Vancouver, BC; and his sister Margaret and Robert Dye of Cambridge, ON. Jack was born at home April 13, 1923, in Evansburg, AB. When he was around six years old he moved with his family to Trail, BC, until he left to attend the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, graduating in 1946. While working at the British Columbia shipyards, in the summer of 1945, Jack met Marion, and they were married May 19, 1947. From graduation until June 1947, Jack worked at the smelter in Trail. In June 1947, Jack began work at A.V. Roe in Toronto, and stayed there until August of 1959, when he moved his family to Winnipeg. Jack began work at Standard Aero in the Engineering Office, eventually rising to the position of Vice President. He enjoyed his time at Standard Aero, forming many strong friendships and social relationships. He retired in November 1984, after 25 years of proud service to a company he admired and cared about. Jack had many gifts, including an ability to fix almost anything that was broken, or to create wonderful carpentry projects for home. Foremost among his talents was his smooth baritone. Whether it was in the choir at St. Andrews, Anglican Church, the St. James Community Choir, social events at Standard Aero and at home, or long trips in the car, Jack was always up for a song. Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 7, at Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society, the Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank the staff at Riverview B-1, for the special care and comfort that they gave him these past few weeks.
