WALTER GALAY May 8, 1932 - April 1, 2003 Peacefully, on Tuesday, April 1, 2003, Walter Galay of Headingley, MB died at the Grace General Hospital at the age of 70 years. After a lengthy battle with heart disease and a brief but relentless bout of cancer, Walter succumbed courageously with his family at his bedside. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Elsie of 44 years of marriage; son Jerry; daughters, Marlene (Jose), Justin, Daniel; Janet (Matt), Brett, Brendin, Blake; Tracey (Don), Austin, Tiffany; siblings, Margaret, Verna, Adeline and Louis; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Walter was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Polly; sister Olga; and brother Pete. Walter was primarily self-taught and became well respected as an expert in the construction industry which began in the early 1950s. His word in business and friendship was his bond and he gained a reputation for fairness in all his business dealings. Divine Liturgy will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Basils Ukrainian Catholic Church, 202 Harcourt St., Winnipeg, MB with Rev. Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, O.S.B.M. officiating. Entombment will follow in the Queen of Heaven Mausoleum in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. A special thanks to Dr. Pat Harris, Dr. Gooi and the caring staff who helped us through this very difficult time. In lieu of flowers, as an expression of sympathy, donations in Walters memory may be made to St. Basils Elevator Fund, Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation.
