On April 1, 2003 Frank Woodley, beloved husband to Jacqueline and dear father to Judi and Ken, went peacefully to his eternal home. Known for his gentleness, care, and respect for others, Frank leaves as a legacy his great faith - the source of his serenity, inner peace and joy in the Lord throughout his life. The son of Francis Oliver Woodley and Susanna Griffiths, Frank was born on July 1, 1921 in Manchester, England. After spending his youth in England, Frank entered the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, and served in North Africa. After the war, Frank immigrated to Canada and settled in Winnipeg. He studied accounting and articled with the firm of Sharpe and Woodley, as well as with the Manitoba government. It was at this time that he met his spouse, Jacqueline Marie Gagnon and they married on October 28, 1950. From 1950 to 1960, Frank worked for the federal Income Tax Branch. In 1960 he moved his family to Los Angeles where he and his wife studied in preparation for missionary work with the Catholic Church. Upon completion of their studies, Frank relocated his family to Zambia (formerly Northern Rhodesia) where he served his church and faith for six years. Upon his return from the missions, Frank worked for the Manitoba Sales Tax Branch until his retirement in June 1986. His tenure with the Sales Tax Branch was characterized by his gentleness, caring manner and respect of others. Frank was a voracious reader and lifelong student of history. He enjoyed the arts and music in particular. His volunteer activities included the Centre Tache and the Foyer Valade. Franks retirement years were spent enjoying the many blessings of his marriage and faith. Apart form his immediate family, Frank is survived by his sisters, Vena Evans and Dorothy Lowe; and his cousins, Jane James and Melinda Kay. Special thanks to Dr. Jose Francois, Fr. Lanoie and the staff of 6-A at the St. Boniface General Hospital. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 3 at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Funeral mass will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 4 at Holy Cross Church, 252 Dubuc St. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial offering in Franks name, may be made to the Missionaries of Africa, P.O. Box 23, Winnipeg, MB R2H 3B4.
