Peacefully, with his family at his side, Jim, beloved husband of Joan, passed away at the age of 83 years on Wednesday, April 2, 2003 at the Boyne Lodge in Carman, MB. Jim was born on October 19, 1919 and was raised on the family farm in Miami, MB as the youngest of 12 children. He is survived by his brother Harry Lawson and sister Della Gray, both of Vancouver, along with his wife Joan, his son Blair, and many close nephews and nieces who will miss him dearly. Jim served overseas in the Second World War in the Medical Corps for four years and commenced the study of Veterinary medicine in Guelph, ON upon his return. Upon graduating from Veterinary College he established his practice in Carman, MB where he faithfully served the community and surrounding area for 43 years. Known as Doc to many of his clients and friends, he truly loved his chosen profession. He was a member of the Carman Kinsmen Club, K-40 club, Dufferin Agricultural Society, Carman Legion and Carman United Church during his active years. He derived great pleasure from visits with friends and relatives, his numerous family pets, weekends and vacations at the Big Whiteshell, bingo and even the odd bridge game. He loved to play the piano and entertained many Army buddies, friends and relatives over the years with his ability to play anything by ear. Jim loved to garden and his flowers and flowerbeds were admired by many. Sincere appreciation to the exceptional care and service received from the staff at the Boyne Lodge and Carman Hospital. Their many hours of dedicated care and genuine interest will always be a comforting memory. Also a special thank-you to Dr. Chan who performed knee replacement surgery on both knees which allowed Jim additional years of mobility. Also a special thank-you to the doctors and medical staff of Carman Memorial Hospital. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carman United Church, with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating. Interment will take place in the Greenwood Cemetery Columbarium, Carman. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boyne Lodge, Box 1644, Carman, MB R0G 0J0 or to the Carman United Church, Box 1177, Carman, MB R0G 0J0. Doyles Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
