NICHOLAS JACOB BRAUN Peacefully, on April 4, 2003, at 10:15 a.m., at the age of 89 years, Nicholas passed away at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, with his family at his side. Dad leaves behind his loving wife of 65 years, Helena; nine children, Ernie (Linda) Braun of Morris, Nick (Janet) Braun of Kelowna, Helen (Pete) Friesen of Carlowrie, Art (Sharon) Braun of Kelowna, Harry (Susanne) Braun of Morris, Elvera (Hal) Nodsle of Orlando, FL, Ruth (Gordon) Coates of Morris, Charlotte (Mark) Burch of Winnipeg, and Leona (Leonard) Gerbrandt of Landmark; 33 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Dad was predeceased by his parents, John and Sara Braun; his siblings, John, Betty, and Jake; two sisters and one brother in infancy; his daughter Erna (Henry) Engbrecht; son-in-law Ken Klassen; and grandson Darren Nodsle. Dad was born in 1913 at Nova Petrowka, Southern Russia. He immigrated to Canada in 1925 with his family when he was eleven years old. They settled in the Ste. Elisabeth area. In 1930 Grandpa Braun bought the farm in the Morris area where Dad and Mom raised their family. Mom and Dad met through church activities and were married on October 30, 1937. Ten children were born to Mom and Dad, the first being twins - much to their surprise. Dad and Mom farmed together for 50 years. In 1986 they built a house in Morris. Dad developed Parkinsons disease at the age of 61. With the deterioration of his health, he moved into the Red River Lodge in 1997, and enjoyed their gentle and loving care. Mom visited the Lodge regularly and continued caring for Dad. Funeral services will be held at the Morris Fellowship Chapel, 223 Main St., Morris on Tuesday, April 8 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow after lunch at the Lichtenau Cemetery, Ste. Elisabeth. Friends and family may pay their last respects at a viewing on Monday, April 7 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Morris Funeral Home, and at the church prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to the Red River Valley Lodge, Box 507, Morris, MB R0G 1K0. "Ich will euch tragen bis ins Alter, und bis ihr grau werdet."
