WILLIAM G. (BILL) ROBINSON Peacefully at Tuxedo Villa on Thursday, April 3, 2003, Bill Robinson passed away. Bill will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by daughter Lesley (Lynn) Bishop; grandchildren, Kirsten (partner John), Sean and Ainsley to whom he was "Pops"; and by great-grandchildren, Jordan and Ian to whom he was "Papa Bill". Surviving family members also include sisters-in-law, Bunny, May and Emma; brothers-in-law, Bill and Ernie as well as nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by wife Jessie in April 2000 as well as by his sisters, Marge and Helen; and brothers, Frank and Tom. Bill was born August 18, 1918 to Jeanne (nee Thompson) and Thomas Robinson of Elmwood. He graduated from St. Johns High School in 1936. As a younger man Bill was active in lacrosse, hockey, track and curling and an avid follower of sports thereafter. Bill joined Canada Packers in 1940. He left temporarily to serve in the Royal Canadian Army from 1943 to 1945 following which he returned to and remained with Canada Packers until his retirement in 1983. Known for his high spirits, sense of humour, good natured teasing and quick wit, his many dialects and impersonations as well as his love of music and dance, being in Bills company was colourful, lively and a joy to many. In the early 1960s Bill and Jessie chose to build a lakeside cottage on Traverse Bay. The cottage remained a special part of Bills life and a place where he derived great pleasure in the company of his family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends. In accordance with Bills wishes, no formal service will be held and cremation has taken place. Bill also wanted special mention to be made of Louise, Debbie, Susan, Marcia and Laurie, his wonderful caregivers at Tuxedo Villa. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so may make a donation in Bills memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba or the Childrens Hospital Research Foundation.
