WILLIAM (BILL) SMITZNIUK Peacefully, on April 2, 2003, at the Vista Park Lodge, William Smitzniuk passed away. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Julia (nee Boyko) and seven children, Wilbert (Terry) Smitzniuk, Merlyne (John) Werezak, Sharon (David) Nazar, Laurie (Kathy) Smitzniuk, Bernice Kralka, Dale Smitzniuk, Melvin (Linda) Smitzniuk; as well as 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. William is also survived by sister Sophie Toffan and brother Alex Smitzniuk. Dad was born on October 12, 1917 in Krasne, Saskatchewan. Dad and Mom were married in Medicine Hat, Alberta where he was stationed in the armed forces at Suffield. They settled in Wynyard, Saskatchewan where he worked for the CPR and the town until retiring to Winnipeg in September of 1999. They were to celebrate their 60th Wedding Anniversary on May 4, 2003. Throughout Dads life family always came first and foremost. He was a great kibitzer and had a knack for finding a humorous side to every situation. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint). Interment will follow at the Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will also take place in the reception centre. The family would like to thank all those who helped make him more comfortable during his difficult times. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of William to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of ones choice.
