(MILDRED) IRENE FAURSCHOU Irene passed away after a sudden illness on April 4, 2003 at Deer Lodge Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Paul in 1981, and her son Ron in 1993, she is survived by her daughter Judith and sons Brian (Louise) and Bruce (Teresa), sister Norma Byrne, brother Dale (Marge) Atkinson, Grandchildren Allan (Ali), Gavin (Joanne), Trisha and Paul. Mom was born in Winnipeg, November 13, 1912, and grew up in Glenella, Manitoba. She moved to Winnipeg, at the age of 16, and worked for Grey Goose Bus Lines while attending Success Business College, where she met Paul. They were married in 1940 and made their home in St. James. Each summer for 45 years, many of the familys best times were spent at the cottage at Sandy Hook. Most family birthdays were celebrated at the cottage, and it was there she taught her grandchildren to play cribbage and loved to be challenged to a game any time. She and Paul also spent many extended winter vacations in Florida and Hawaii. Irene earned her first drivers license in the same month she received her first pension cheque, and drove her reliable grey Chevy for 20 years. Along with her dear friend Lil Bester, she devoted more than 25 years to Grace Hospital Auxiliary, taking primary responsibility for the cards in the gift shop. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the Grace Hospital Christmas parties. We remember Mom as an exemplary homemaker who devoted herself to her family. Among her strongest characteristics were forthrightness, determination, independence, and quick wit with a keen sense of humour. We were delighted to have a wonderful celebration at La Vielle Gare for Moms 90th birthday in November, and will cherish her memory always. We are grateful to Home Care staff who helped Mom maintain her independence, and 3 East Deer Lodge staff for their kind, professional and compassionate care over the past month. A memorial service will be held at Garry Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1291 McGillivray Blvd, on Tuesday, April 8 at 1:00 p.m with Rev. Peter Douglas officiating. In lieu of flowers, friends are asked to make a donation to the Deer Lodge Foundation, 2109 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB, R2J 0L3.
