MARIE SCHMIDT Peacefully, on Sunday, April 6, 2003, Marie Schmidt, beloved mother and grandmother passed away at her home. Marie was the beloved wife of the late Victor Schmidt who predeceased her in 1960. She will be forever treasured and deeply missed by her daughter Brenda Morlock and grandchildren, Jocelyn and Jeffrey Morlock; sister Olga Palmer (George) brother-in-law Ed Smith (Linda) sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Borger and Olga Malenchuk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was also predeceased by her brothers, Steve, Amel and Walter Malenchuk; and by her son-in-law Lenard Morlock. Marie was born in Winnipeg on June 15, 1914. She was the eldest of five children and began working to help support her family at a very young age. She loved to surprise her family with special gifts and did this throughout her life. She was a very loving, devoted and generous mother and grandma who gave freely of her time to make life better or easier for other family members. Her grandchildren were a special delight for her and they have been left with many wonderful memories of times spent with Grandma. Her two nieces, Marianne Troup and Katherine Dane, share many special memories of her as well. Marie worked for 20 years at the City Centre Hotel as a cashier and hostess retiring in 1980. Her wonderful cooking, baking and lovingly created knitted afghans will be remembered forever by her family. Marie loved the trips she took with her family throughout her life and always remarked about the beauty that God had created in this world. She still delighted in watching the snow fall. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 15 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church, 250 Burrin Ave. at Aikins Street, with Rev. Fr. Terance McGrath officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandson Jeffrey Morlock, nephews Blaine Troup and Dennis Dane and dear friend Edward Buchel.
