MARY WYLLIE Mary Wyllie passed away peacefully at Bethesda Place on Thursday, April 3, 2003 at the age of 91. Mary was the beloved wife of the late James Wyllie, loving mother of Donald and his wife Margaret, and Joan and her husband Charlie Lumgair. She was a very special grandma to her grandchildren, Carolyn and Howard Plett, Graham and Jane Wyllie-Runner, April and Orville Friesen, Diane and Rod Reimer, Stuart Lumgair, Shauna and William Clinging, and Bruce Lumgair, and to 15 great-grandchildren. Her brother Edward and wife Paule, sister-in-law Peggy and family and Ruth and family also mourn her loss. Mary was predeceased by her husband James and daughter Sheila, sister Katherine, brothers, Victor, Charles, and Richard; sister-in-law Christina and her husband Leonard. Mary was born to Percy and Madeline Oke at Sullivan Lake, AB on February 26, 1912. The family moved to Hughendon, AB and in Marys preteens to the Winnipeg area. She graduated from high school in Middlechurch, attended University of Manitoba for two years, and went on to Normal School in Winnipeg, graduating in 1929. She began her teaching career at Queens Valley and then Pinewood. Later, after her family was grown, she resumed teaching at Monominto, Transcona and Dugald, retiring in 1974. Mary married James Wyllie of Monominto in 1936. They farmed and lived there until 1991 when they moved to Villa Youville in Ste. Anne. Jim passed away in 1993 and Mary moved to Bethesda Place in Steinbach in 1997. Mary loved children and enjoyed teaching them. She had a true love of learning and its importance. She valued and respected nature. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a great joy to her as were her nieces and nephews. She valued time spent having fun with family and friends. She and Jim loved to dance, travel, visit and play Bridge and Crokinole. Mary enjoyed reading and doing crosswords, fine needlework, and ceramics. She was always supportive of others in what they chose to do and ever encouraging. She attended Ostenfeld Lutheran Church and was member of the ELW group. Special thanks from the family to the staff at Bethesda Place for so tenderly and lovingly caring for our mother. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2:00 p.m. at Ostenfeld Lutheran Church. Interment at Monominto Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of our mother may be made to Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, R3B 2H8 or the St. Amant Centre, 440 River Rd., Winnipeg, R2M 2Z9.
