WALDEMAR (WALLY) REIMER A.A.C.I. Passed away peacefully in his sleep at Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg on April 7, 2003, after a lengthy and courageous struggle with many health issues. Born on March 7, 1925 in Dawlikanowa, Ufa, Russia, to Henry and Sara (Braun) Reimer, Wally immigrated to Canada as an infant with his parents and sister Elvera. After several years in Fleming, SK the family moved to Ontario where he graduated from KCI in Kitchener. Wally then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served his country as airplane service engineer in Churchill, MB during the Second World War. Wally was baptized upon his confession of faith in 1950 at W-K United Mennonite Church. He and Mary Toews were married on August 16, 1952 and were blessed with 5 children, Henry (who died in infancy), Helene, Paul, Judith, and Margaret. After many years with Mutual Life in the mortgage field in Vancouver and Winnipeg, Wally, an accredited member of the Appraisal Institute of Canada, joined the K-W Real Estate Board in 1959 and worked with Wiebe & Bacher, Canada Trust and Wiebe Developments. He formed W.H. Reimer Limited in 1964 and enjoyed 26 successful years as a respected appraiser, lecturer and author of appraisal educational material. As well as litigation work for communities across southern Ontario, Wally was a founding member of the Ontario Association Appraisal Institute of Canada (OAAIC) and dedicated many years of service to his profession including two years as President of OAAIC. He was also a member of the Ys Mens Club and KCI Boys of the 30s. Grateful that Wally is free from pain and in Gods care, he will be greatly missed by his devoted wife of 50 years, Mary T. Reimer; children, Helene (Peters) and Tim Green, Mississauga; Paul and Brenda Reimer, Calgary; Judy and Vic Warkentin and Margaret and Jeff Harasym, Winnipeg. Grandchildren Lora and Neil Peters, Paul Warkentin, Andrew Reimer, and Stephen Harasym will miss their Opi very much. Wally will be fondly remembered by siblings, Elvera and Gerry Thiessen; John and Annelies Reimer, Ruth and Nelson Edwards and Elaine Reimer, along with many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends across Canada. Wally was predeceased by his parents, Henry Reimer, Sara (Braun) Reimer Pankratz; step-father Nicholas Pankratz; brother Victor; sisters, Annie Poetker and Mary Willms. Wallys life was filled with work, family, church and social activities. He had a passion for detail and order, but balanced that with his fun-loving nature and unique sense of humour. He was a good provider, supportive husband, proud and caring father and grandfather, and committed church member who loved golf, travel, games and celebrations. He was the life of the party - break out the cribbage board gang - do you think there are more 29 hands in heaven? For the last 12 years, Wally benefited from the tremendous support of heath care professionals from Home Heath Care Services both in Ontario and Manitoba, Poseidon Personal Care Centre and Victoria General Hospital. Special thanks to all of those who cared for him and made such a difference in the quality of his and Marys life. Donations may be made to Lions Adult Day Club, 333 Maryland in Winnipeg, Adult Recreation Centre, 185 King S. in Waterloo or the Mennonite Central Committee. Funeral services in Winnipeg are planned for Friday, April 11 at Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. with visitation at 10:00 a.m., service at 11:00 a.m. and fellowship meal at 12:00 noon.
