TARAS (TERRY) WALTER KARPYN (1937-2003) On Sunday, April 6, 2003 after a brief illness, Terry passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Terry was predeceased by his parents, Dmytro and Eudokia. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Judi and daughter Tara. He also leaves to cherish his memory in-laws, Fred and Bernice Benson; Ron and Anne Benson; niece Cheryl (Tony) nephews, Kevin, Darin (Sandra) and Jason; great-nephews Elijah and Samuel; as well as many close friends. Terry was born in Winnipeg on March 24, 1937. He grew up in the North End and attended Aberdeen School and St. Johns High. As a young man, his greatest passions were fast cars, sports and his friends. He started his working career at Winnipeg Hydro in 1956, and it was there that he met his wife Judi. After 15 years, Terry moved to the City of Winnipeg Planning Department where he worked as a zoning inspector until his retirement in 1989. During his work years, his leisure time was spent with family and friends at the cottage in Lakeshore Heights. Once into retirement, Terry enjoyed his time gardening, raising his fish, volunteering with the Knights of Columbus, honing his cooking skills, playing double solitaire and triomonos. He spent time in Calgary with his daughter Tara, cousin Janie and many friends. Always proud of his Ukrainian heritage, Terry was a generous and loyal person who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be dearly remembered. Pallbearers will be Boris Skehar, Cliff Ryback, Jerry Philpot, Bill Osadchuk, Tom Rodeck and Nelson Wolfe. The family would like to thank Dr. Gorski, and the nurses and staff of Seven Oaks General Hospital Fifth Floor, Unit U2 for their care and compassion. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Thursday, April 10 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 11 at St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave., with a Redemptorist Father officiating.
