ROBERT GORDON MILLER, SR. It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Gordon Sr., our gentle, loving husband, father and grandfather on April 6, 2003. He was predeceased by his mother Katherine Miller, his father George Miller, his brother Louis Lavergne, daughter-in-law Gail Miller, brother Christian Lavergne. Also numerous aunts and uncles. Bob leaves to mourn his passing and cherish many fond memories his beloved wife Marlene; his three children, Bob Jr. of Winnipeg and Dennis of Blind Bay, BC (Sandy) and the delight of his life, his daughter Wendy Ploski and husband Raymond of Winnipeg; five grandchildren, Kerri and Stacey Miller and Amanda, Ryan and Melissa Ploski. Bob was born in Winnipeg on August 31, 1926, and at a young age moved to Riverton, MB with his family. He left there to find work at the C.P.R. shops in 1942. Bob enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force / Canadian Army, being discharged October 23, 1945. Bob joined the City of Winnipeg Fire Department July 16, 1964 and took early retirement on May 30, 1982. Bob enjoyed his retirement years at Sandy Hook, MB, where his garden, lawn and flower beds were a showpiece. Bob gave freely of his garden harvest and took pride in canning and freezing with Marlene the fruits of their labour. He would tell everyone that after 21 years of retirement he had finally found his perfect job. Bobs happiest times were those spent with his children and grandchildren. Bob drove Kinsmen bus for many years and was the guiding force behind the expansion of the Winnipeg Beach United Church. Since moving back to Winnipeg in 1996 Bob and Marlene travelled numerous times on trips "South" where Bobs smiling face greeted all his new friends. He was always ready to help or advise, no job was too large, no problem too small. Bobs love of life was both inspiring and infectious. His great sense of humour, warm heart and generous spirit touched everyone who knew him. We will miss him with all our hearts. Funeral service to celebrate Bobs life will be held on Thursday, April 10, at 10:00 a.m., at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., with Bobs personal friend the Rev. Roger Lowe officiating. Pallbearers will be Gordon Zinkowski, Ron Zinkowski, Ray Ploski, Ryan Ploski, Lawrence Johannson, Grant Neil. Honorary pallbearers are Alex Dobrowolski, John Dobbs, Matt Anderson. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Seven Oaks Hospital Emergency for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Firefighters Burn Fund, 202 - 666 St. James St., Winnipeg, MB R2Y 1S3, would be appreciated. Crossing The Bar Sunset and evening star, And one clear call for me! And may there be no moaning of the bar, When I put out to sea, Twilight and evening bell, And after that the dark! And may there be no sadness of farewell, When I embark; For though from out our bourne of time and place The flood may bear me far, I hope to see my pilot face to face When I have crossed the bar. -Lord Alfred Tennyson Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
