Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN (JACK) EDMUND STANLEY It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Jack Stanley, at 74 years of age, on Thursday, April 10, 2003, at St. Boniface Hospital. Jack was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be remembered by his beloved wife of 50 years, Marilyn; children, Colleen (Ron) of Calgary, Alex (Patti), Wayne (Chris) and Ken, all of Winnipeg; and his grandchildren, Erik, Todd, Brianna and Dylan. He will also be missed by his sister Patricia (David) of Vernon; sister-in-law Edie; nieces, nephews and numerous cousins. Jack was predeceased by his mother and father; and his brother Ernest. Jack was born in Winnipeg but spent part of his youth in Kenora, ON, and Selkirk, before settling back in Winnipeg and marrying Marilyn. He managed an Esso service station for many years, then moving on to the Tire Exchange and finally working for H&R Block doing income tax. Jack was a dedicated member and Past Master of the Acacia Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite and Khartum Temple of the Shrine. Music was a passion and a part of Jacks life since childhood, beginning with a guitar. As an adult he took up the clarinet, then the saxophone and began to play in various bands. He played in and conducted the Shrine Orchestra for many years and also played in the Southglen Orchestra and the German Club Band. One of Jacks great loves was the cottage on Lake of the Woods where he and his family spent many hours hammering, sawing, building and rebuilding but not without relaxing. Jacks favourite time of the day was happy hour when all would stop and everyone would have a Caesar. He always considered it to be his "work in progress" but not without relaxation time! Fulfilling his wish to travel, he and Marilyn also had many memorable trips to various parts of the world. Jack leaves behind a legacy of dear and cherished friends. He was a wealth of knowledge and greatly respected as a mentor to all. He will be sadly missed. We wish to sincerely thank the staff of the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their caring, kindness and support. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 2:30 p.m. at St. Vital United Church, 937 St. Marys Rd. at Poplarwood Ave. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Diabetes Foundation, the Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
