JEAN McCULLOCH DUNCAN (nee NICOLL) Jean McCulloch Duncan (nee Nicoll) on April 9, 2003, died peacefully with family present, at Victoria General Hospital. She will be deeply missed by: her loving husband of 54 years, Jim; sons, Rob, David (Wendy), and Cam; granddaughters, Jocelyn and Rachel; sisters, Rae Mills and Nancy Wright; brother Jim Nicoll (Joan) sisters-in-law, Bernice Nicoll and Lou Duncan; many nieces, nephews; and long-time friends. A life-long resident of Lord Roberts and Riverview neighbourhoods in Winnipeg; she attended Lord Roberts Elementary School and Kelvin High School and worked for the Royal Bank, the same bank that had recruited her Dad from Scotland. Mum always enjoyed morning coffee and toast in her living-room watching her birds at the feeder and the neighbourhood kids parading off to school and the Tuesday morning coffee group. Another of Mums favourite spots was East Neuk, the family cottage, at Victoria Beach where she spent many summers, as a child, with her children, and with her grand-children. Mum loved to travel with Dad and her family and the list of destinations is extensive. Mum was a lover of Nature and all of its wonders; she was a Life Member of the Manitoba Naturalists Society. Churchill Park (Rosedale) United Church was a big part of her life. Mum was a long-time member of the United Church Women (UCW), taught at Sunday School and belonged to The Girls Club a group of close friends, meeting for over 50 years. Mum had a natural ability with people, putting them at ease with her open and friendly manner. Her positive attitude and carefree spirit was evident in so many ways. In the end though, it was not able to overcome her failing health and surgeries. We dont always get to choose what happens to us in life - we can only choose how we respond. Mums response was one of love and optimism. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St Boniface and Victoria Hospitals and our friends who have been so supportive. Memorial donations may be made to Manitoba Naturalists Society, Churchill Park United Church, or a favourite charity. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 23 at Churchill Park United Church (525 Beresford Ave).
