Date of Passing: Apr 12, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOSEPHINE KRIZAK With deep sadness, we the family of Josephine Krizak announce that our beloved Mama ("Bapka") entered into eternal rest on Saturday, April 12, 2003, with her family by her side. Her 95th Birthday party with children and grandchildren had been a happy celebration just nine days prior to her death. Mother was born in Korytne, Slovakia on April 3, 1908. She and Dad were married on June 1, 1925. In 1937, they immigrated into Canada and farmed in the Rosewood, MB area until Dads death in 1972. In 1977, Mom moved to Winnipeg and lived in the Arms of the Cross Apartments until December 2000 at which time, she moved to Park Manor Personal Care Home in Transcona. Mom was an excellent cook and pastry chef. Her culinary services were in great demand at many Slovak functions, at weddings, church suppers, teas, etc. People would drive from Winnipeg to Dufresne to buy her scrumptious pastries. Her beautiful embroidery on traditional Slovak dress as well as her many crocheted afghans are treasured by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mom was predeceased by her parents, Jan and Zuzanna Halas; brother Jan Halas; an infant son Frantisek; infant daughter Frantiska in Slovakia. Her dear husband Anthony in Winnipeg and infant great-granddaughter Shannen in Surrey, BC. Left to cherish her memory are son Joseph (Audrey) daughters, Lydia Watson and Josie Cole of Winnipeg, Anne (Louis) Augustine of Dufresne, Mary Betker of Meadow Lake, SK, Jolana (Jerry) Dusik of Kelowna, BC, and Jennie Couture of White Rock, BC. She is survived by 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Josephines grandsons. Viewing and prayers will be held at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 820 Cottonwood Rd. and Drake in Windsor Park on Wednesday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Louis McCloskey and Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Interment will take place at Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Flowers graciously declined. If friends so wish, donations may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, Cancer Society, or charity of choice. A kind, gentle heart has stopped beating. A beautiful soul has gone to Jesus, whom she loved so dearly; her Rosary always in her hands, meditating on His life, death, and resurrection. We love you Mom. We will always miss you, but rejoice that you are finally Home! Sincere thanks to Park Manor staff for their kind, compassionate care, to Fr. McCloskey for his love and ministry over the years.
