Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN LILIAN DACK (nee DOBSON) Helen was born February 23, 1910 and died peacefully on April 13, 2003 at West Park Manor Personal Care Home after a long and happy life. She is survived by her sisters Mary Osborne of Vancouver and Ruth McGill, formerly of Killarney, MB; brother Harold Dobson of Galliano Island, B.C.; nieces and nephews Rosalind (Dick) Dearing of Winnipeg, Jim (Dorothy) Osborne, Donald (Marci) Osborne, Carol Osborne, Harold (Ann) Osborne, Jane (Al) Joy, Charles Dobson, Clive (Nori) Dobson and great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Percival Charles and Lily Delila Louise (nee Moss) Dobson, husband John Dack, brother-in-law Stan McGill, sister-in-law Mae Dobson and niece Maureen Marr. Helen lived most of her life in St. James. She graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1929 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and went on to take teacher training at the Winnipeg Normal School. She taught one year in Reston, MB and then returned to Winnipeg where she taught at Assiniboine, Bannatyne, King Edward, Isaac Newton and finally at Gordon Bell schools before retiring in 1969. She especially enjoyed her years as school librarian and developed many lifelong friendships among both staff and students. Helen married John Edward Dack in 1967. Following her retirement from teaching, she and John enjoyed travelling in Canada and abroad. She made many friends through her travels and took great joy in her marriage to John until his death in 1984. Helen was passionately fond of music and tennis and for years was a member of the Deer Lodge Tennis Club. She was a charter member of the Deer Lodge United Church and an active worker in the United Church Women. She was a woman of strong faith and firm conviction. Helen had a great love of children and expressed this through her loving relationships with her nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and with many neighbourhood children. She continued to show this love through her support of numerous foster children abroad and for many charitable organizations, particularly those working with children. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to one of Helens favourite charities, UNICEF, World Vision, or the Winnipeg Foundation John and Helen Dack fund. She will be remembered always with great affection and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. A memorial service will be held at Deer Lodge United Church, 2093 Portage Ave. on Wednesday, April 16 at 2:00 p.m. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
