CHRISTOPHER T. RIDLEY On March 31, 2003, Chris passed away at Tuxedo Villa. Born in Dartford, Kent, England in 1909, he was in his 93rd Year. Immigrating to Canada with his mother and eight siblings in 1913, they joined his father who had preceded them in 1910. He assisted in the family business "Ridley & Sons" in Winnipeg. During WWII, Chris served in the Army Medical Corps, and was stationed in Winnipeg. He was later presented with the St. Johns Ambulance medal, an honour he was very proud of. His great love and concern for birds and animals prompted him to establish "Birdwarren Sanctuary". His Sanctuary project gave him the opportunity to live in various parts of rural Manitoba. On the authority of the Federal Government, Chris was among the first in Canada to officially band migratory birds. Chris held a PhD in Zoology and was affectionately known as "Dr. Ridley" by many who visited him. He also enjoyed recreational field trips to paint landscapes and country life. Predeceased by his parents, four brothers and four sisters, he is survived by sister Jessie Watson of Oak Bank. His many nieces and nephews across Canada mourn the passing of their "Uncle Chum". Cremation has taken place. Interment will be at a later date, at St. Vital Cemetery. Should friends desire, donations to a charity of choice or one of the following would be appreciated. • I never met "uncle chum", but heard many stories from Gladys & Vera, his nieces. It is remarkable that he lived to this age, and I really regret not meeting him - Posted by: Reginald Smith (He was my grandmother's brother) on: Apr 12, 2012
