Born: Jul 24, 1925
Date of Passing: Apr 13, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACQUELINE "JACKIE" ROSEMARY RIDLEY (nee BLACK) Jackie passed peacefully at her home with her family on Sunday, April 13, 2003 following a lengthy illness (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy P.S.P.). Jackie was predeceased by her husband Bill Ridley of Manitou; her parents, Gladys and Alymer Black; and her beloved sister Lorraine Dillabough of Minnedosa. Mom leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her son Curt Ridley, daughter-in-law Lee Ann and Jackies beloved grandson Erick of Mesquite, TX; Sherry Ridley and son-in-law Lyn Palframan of Winnipeg; nephew Bill and Lori McVey of Minnedosa; brothers-in-law, Ralph Ridley of Calgary, Jim Ridley of Red Deer, Al Duffy of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law, Joyce Taylor of Kenora and Shirley Duffy of Winnipeg. She is also survived by numerous other relatives and dear friends. Jackie was born on July 24, 1925 in Minnedosa, MB. She met Bill Ridley in Rivers, MB, where he was serving in the R.C.A.F. The couple were united in marriage and were blessed with two children, Curt and Sherry. Through their 47 years together Bill and Jackie lived in 22 different locations throughout Canada and the world during his military service to his country. Many times Jackie moved family on her own while Bill was away. Jackie worked for Canada Post at many of these locations. She worked at Hills West Drug Store / Post Office while living in Portage la Prairie. Mom was a "volunteer extraordinaire" working at the Red Cross at Deer Lodge Hospital, Past Presidents Curling Association of Manitoba, CFB Winnipeg Curling Club where she was a Honorary Life Member, a founder of John Blumberg Business Girls Golf Club where she was most of the executive from 1980 to 1993. If anyone was ill or needed help she was the first person to offer her assistance. Jackie was a much loved mother, grandmother and friend. She was fiercely loyal and supportive. P.S.P. did not stop her and she never complained about her misfortune but accepted it as she accepted everything else in her life. Her courage and stamina could not be surpassed by many. She walked with assistance almost every day until she could walk no more. She then decided that the wheelchair was going to be her mode of transportation (yes, in -40 degree weather as well!). She loved Millers Campground outside Portage where she spent almost 20 summers with Bill and their family. Her last swim was July 24, 2002 at Millers. We will miss your presence, your unconditional love and your steady, courageous outlook on life. "Theres no use crying. It doesnt change a thing." Thanks to those who helped look after Mom: Carol Niven, Dianna, Selin, Shirley, Shawna, Ophelia, Lois MacVicar, Jade Miller, Adele Schade, Krystyna Pietryka, Holly Hambleton, Bonnie Schesnik and Brenda Resnik. Also a thank you is extended to S.M.D. for the use of her wheelchair and parking pass and to the C.N.I.B. for her talking books. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Moms memory to a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Thursday, April 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception to follow at Chapel Lawn.
