WILLIAM EDWIN CARTER We have lost a good husband, good father and a good friend. On April 15, 2003, William Edwin Carter lost a courageous battle to cancer. Edwin leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 45 years, Jean; three daughters, Sheila, Barbara (Kenneth) and Donna (Kevin) two sons, Kenneth and Dugald (Lori) five grandchildren, Adam, Stacey (Al), Gordon, James and Amy; two brothers, Arnold and Raymond; two sisters, Phyllis Luke and Audrey Chrisp; and numerous nieces and nephews. Edwin was born in Selkirk on July 6, 1932, son of the late Stanley and Anne Carter. He started work at the R.M. of St. Andrews in 1970 as a grader operator, moving up to foreman before retiring in 1992. He was a volunteer fire fighter for the R.M. of St. Andrews for 28 years, 24 years as Fire Chief. He served for several years on the Clandeboye Hall Board. His most recent adventures were with Legion 42 in Selkirk where he was a member and the president of the Over 60 Club. Edwin has touched the hearts of all who knew him, enriching the lives of many people. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered. A service of remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. in the St. Georges Anglican Church, Wakefield, MB, with Rev. Canon Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Interment of ashes to follow in the parish cemetery. The family would like to express their heartfelt thanks to the doctors who had treated Edwin during his battle, and the staff at Selkirk General and St. Boniface Hospitals. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edwins name to CancerCare Manitoba, Box 2248 Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
